how to pray 

i ask you Bondjé

how to part these trembling lips 

and pray for 

the soul of a nation 

a nation 

with a mouthful of iron teeth

that often 

repeatedly 

eats its own. how does one pray?

how does one pray

for people 

under the weight of delusion 

that they represent you 

by oppressing and erasing 

diverse lived experiences 

and authenticity, how does one pray 

for a people devoid of civility?
